Ik ben David Holscher, autodidact fotograaf en scenarioschrijver en werk vanuit wat mij persoonlijk beweegt.

De thema’s die in mijn fotografie en schrijven naar voren komen, vloeien voort uit mijn eigen leven: uit mijn jeugd, gedachten en gevoelens, en de mensen om mij heen. Ze variëren van intieme, persoonlijke onderwerpen tot maatschappelijke thema’s die mij raken.

 

Mijn fotografie stijl is documentair en filmisch, sober en nauwelijks geënsceneerd. Ik werk in kleur en zwart-wit, digitaal en analoog, afhankelijk van het onderwerp, thema of sfeer. Van portretten tot landschappen en stills: vorm volgt altijd uit de inhoud, en ik werk graag in combinatie met tekst.

 

Mijn werk is waarschijnlijk een poging om te begrijpen en te verbinden. Daarom fotografeer ik het liefst in dialoog, met aandacht voor context en wederkerigheid. Ik probeer clichés en het reduceren van culturen tot een exotisch of eenzijdig beeld te vermijden.

I am David Holscher,  a self-taught photographer, working from what moves me personally.
The themes in my photography emerge from my own life: my childhood, thoughts and emotions,

and the people around me. They range from intimate, personal subjects to social issues that affect me deeply.

 

My style is documentary and cinematic, sober and rarely staged. I work in both colour and black-and-white, digitally and on film, depending on the subject, theme or atmosphere. From portraits to landscapes and stills, form always follows content, and I often work in combination with text.

My work is, in many ways, an attempt to understand and to connect. I prefer to photograph in dialogue, with attention to context and reciprocity. I aim to avoid clichés and the reduction of cultures to an exotic or

one-dimensional image.
